Anne Carlisle is a multidisciplinary artist, actress, and writer whose creative legacy spans film, literature, and the visual arts. Best known for her groundbreaking dual performance in the 1982 cult classic *Liquid Sky*—which she also co-wrote—Anne captivated audiences by portraying both lead characters, Margaret and Jimmy, in a hypnotic exploration of gender, alienation, and 1980s New Wave culture.
Her presence continued on screen with roles in *Desperately Seeking Susan*, *Miami Vice*, and *Crocodile Dundee*, and she later adapted *Liquid Sky* into a novel. A sequel, *Liquid Sky 2*, was confirmed in 2014 with Anne reprising her iconic role.
Beyond film, Anne Carlisle has been a committed fine artist for over five decades. She studied under Reuben Hale at Palm Beach Community College (A.A. 1975), earned her B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts (1979), and completed an M.A. in Art Therapy at NYU in 1995. Her paintings are rich in emotion, layered in texture, and deeply reflective of the same avant-garde energy that marked her cinematic work.
Now based in Boynton Beach, Florida, Anne maintains an active studio practice and serves as a founding board member of The Artwork of Reuben Hale, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Hale’s legacy through a public studio and sculpture garden in West Palm Beach.
